
Meet Dr. Marla James
Dr. Marla James is an award-winning educator, instructional leader, and conference speaker helping schools harness AI while keeping student thinking at the center. Named the 2024 Co-Nonpublic School Teacher of the Year by the New Jersey Council for American Private Education, Dr. James serves as an instructional supervisor and faculty leader at Union Catholic Regional High School in New Jersey, where she teaches Honors English, AP U.S. Government, AP European History, and AP African American Studies while mentoring both students and teachers. As a seasoned presenter at national conferences, Dr. James leads conversations on creating inclusive learning environments rooted in Universal Design for Learning, project-based pedagogy, and student-centered innovation. Her classrooms and professional development sessions focus on documented learning, metacognition, ethical AI use, and assessment practices that keep student thinking visible. She believes the future of education depends less on catching AI use and more on teaching students how to think alongside it without surrendering their own judgment.
